Long Island University was chartered in 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, as a nonsectarian, coeducational, privately supported university established to provide “effective and moderately priced education” to people from “all walks of life.” From its beginning, admission to the University has been based solely on merit and promise.  LIU’s original Brooklyn Campus maintains close ties with the community. Educating the Community

LIU CampusLIU students and staff take part in a variety of programs providing tutoring and educational opportunities to children and adults in the community. For example, many students participate in the federally-funded work study program America Reads, which aims to ensure that every American child can read well and independently by the end of 3rd grade. C.W. Post Campus student groups

LIU Civic Engagement There are a number of student groups at LIU’s C.W. Post Campus dedicated to engagement with the community. The Social Work Club educates and assists Social Work students and benefits the people of Long Island through community service projects and fundraising events. Protecting Every Aspect Concerning the Environment (PEACE) is an organization committed to the betterment of our environment. Campus clean-ups, animal rights speakers, and various other important issues are tackled by this active organization. And Best Buddies is a non-profit organization that helps create one-on-one friendships with people who may have intellectual disabilities. Learn more>>
