Hamdard University (Pakistan)

Hamdard University is a private research university founded in 1991 with campuses in Karachi and Islamabad, Pakistan. The university serves over 5,000 students at two campuses and three hospitals. Hamdard University’s mission is to preserve, and disseminate knowledge by achieving the highest level of excellence at per with best institutions of the world.

Shifa-ul-Mulk Memorial Hospital

A constituent institute of Hamdard University, the hospital provides free health facilities to low-income residents of Karachi. The hospital has also been commissioned to serve as a Family Medical Care and Services providing center. This is a well-equipped teaching hospital providing twenty-four hour free community health services to the villages surrounding Hamdard University.

Hamdard Village School

It was the mission of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said, the founder Chancellor of Hamdard University, that no child of Pakistan should be deprived of education. The campus of Hamdard Village School was established in 1997 to provide educational facilities to the children of more than 38 villages adjoining Madinat al-Hikmah. The school provides education to students free of cost. Books, bags, uniforms, shoes and stationery are provided by Hamdard Foundation Pakistan. Moreover, vocational training is made mandatory for Class-VI to VII. The vocational training includes short courses in electric wiring, plumbing, mobile phone repair, and tailoring.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hospitals

The Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences and Faculty of Eastern Medicine provide quality health care to the general population. The health care system of Hamdard University includes tertiary care hospitals namely Hamdard University Hospital, (Taj Medical Complex), Karachi, Hamdard University Dental Hospital, Naimat Begum Mother & Child Care Unit under supervision of Hamdard College of Medicine & Dentistry. Under the management of Hamdard Al-Majeed College of Eastern Medicine (UNANI), Shifa-ul-Mulk Memorial Hospital provides 24/hours Unani therapeutics at Madinat-al-Hikmah (Main Campus), under qualified physicians (Bachelor of Eastern Medicine and Surgery – BEMS).

Hamdard University also runs a Primary Health Care Centre at Khuda Ki Basti, Karachi, a suburb settlement of low-income workers.

 

 

 

 

 

Collaboration with NGOs

Hamdard University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ihsan Trust, a social welfare NGO based in Karachi. Under the MoU the needy students are provided interest free loans to continue their studies.

Hamdard University will implement a USAID-sponsored project: Gender Equity Program (GEP) launched through Aurat Foundation – a women’s rights organization based in Islamabad, and does active lobbying and advocacy on behalf of women. Under this project, Hamdard University will engage 120 female IT graduates, provide them specialized training in IT skills, and facilitate their entry into the job market through internship/placement in the public and private sector.
