Thai Nguyen University was established in 1994 to serve the community in Vietnam’s ninth largest city, Thai Nguyen. TNU is one of the major regional university systems in Vietnam, serving the entire northern mountain region. In 1994, different centers of learning were united under one general administration. These centers would become the seven colleges of the newly-formed university: Education, Engineering and Technology, Agriculture and Forestry, Economics and Techniques, Economics and Business Administration, Medicine and Pharmacy, Communication and Technology. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and vocational education, as well as research and extension services.

A program in the University’s School of Foreign Languages exemplifies the university’s motto of “Together We Create New Success.” The Community English Club (CEC) aims to create a space for students to engage in a wide range of extra-curricular activities while sharpening their use of the English language. Working under the “learning by doing” maxim, TNU students run the entire operation of the CEC. Teaching English to the disadvantaged children in the local community, volunteering at the remote areas to support farmers and their children, and carrying out campaigns to raise awareness about the environmental pollutions are among featured projects the students have implemented. As a result, youth leadership is cultivated through students’ initiatives, real-world experiences, and personal reflections.
