Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) is a public research university located in Karachi, Pakistan. FUUAST aims to impart education in Urdu Language and equip students with English Language to compete with international expertise. Another of its basic objectives is to make available the modern and advanced education in Arts, Science and Technology, particularly Information Technology, to the people who cannot afford it.
The Department of Special Education at FUUAST aims to bridge the gap between those with disabilities and the larger population. They conduct workshops on sign language to minimize the communication cap between people with hearing impairment and speech problems and those with full hearing and speaking capabilities. They also organized a workshop about the development of teaching aids for learners with disabilities. The Department of Special Education held an Arts & Crafts Exhibition where students with hearing impairments were able to display their artwork, which was then reviewed by a disability activist. The Department plans to offer workshops on Braille, Sign Language and and Technological Advancements as well to offer counseling services for parents and care-takers of children with disabilities.
