The William Smith College was founded adjacent to the Hobart College and the two institutions entered into a coordinated arrangement that is now unique among American colleges. Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning

 The Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning at Hobart & William Smith Colleges strives to connect students with volunteer service opportunities on-campus, in the surrounding area, and outside the local region. Through service to others, students gain a better understanding of themselves and the responsibilities of a liberally educated person in today’s society.
