Institute of Space Technology (IST) is a federally chartered degree-awarding university located in Islamabad, Pakistan. It was established in 2002 with the focus on the progression of scientific approach and of critical thinking rather than singularly concentrating upon the encyclopedic and academic knowledge. IST offers undergraduate and postgraduate education, and produces scientists and engineers in the field of Engineering and Space Technology. The Institute acquired its degree awarding charter in October, 2005. Presently, the institute is collaborating with Number of International Universities including Beihang University (BUAA), China, University of Surrey (UniS), UK, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), China to offer several degrees of education in a variety of subjects, besides its indigenous graduate as well as undergraduate programs. The faculty of IST with their professional expertise and up-to-date knowledge in their field, industry and applied research experience, is committed to impart the highest quality education. With HEC’s Foreign Faculty Program, we have notable number of specialized faculty at IST, who have brought home with them, years of experience from abroad.

Civic Engagement at IST:
Social investments are used to leverage systematic change with the aim to solve important problems, not only by ameliorating their immediate short term effects, but by targeting their cause. Goals on civic engagement at IST include finding ways to enhance and promote philanthropy in its traditional form, and deepen its impact on society, by focusing on education and research so as to enable youngsters to take charge.  Below are some examples of civic engagement activities at IST:

Umeed Society
Umeed is an education welfare project that has evolved among the students at IST. It is organized and operated exclusively for educational welfare and promotion through:

  • Delivering interactive motivational lectures to students of different schools
  • Conducting workshops for developing confidence and leadership in the students of underprivileged schools
  • Organizing events with healthy educational Sports and cultural activities for schools that provide care to special and orphaned students
  • Providing stationery items, uniforms and text books etc. to students in need through Philanthropic fund raising
  • Providing financial help towards tuition fee payments for needy students
  • Volunteering technical and financial help to already existing education/welfare trusts

 

Environmental Society
The Environmental Society has been established at IST to promote appreciation of nature and community action for eco-development. The Environmental Society celebrated World Environment day on June 5, 2012. The event included different activities that were Environment Protection Pledge Signing, Tree Plantation Ceremony, Painting Competition and an Environment awareness walk was organized at Margalla Hill (Trail-5) in collaboration with Fidens Adventure Club on June 9, 2012.

Blood Donor Club
A blood donor club is working in IST. The club held a Blood donation drive at IST on January 12 and December 15, 2011 featuring university students, faculty, officers and staff in cooperation with Armed Forces Institute of Transfusion (AFIT).The facility was equipped with all the technical requirements to render the process a success. The efforts were meant to encourage students to meet their responsibilities as good citizens and to be active participants in the extra-curricular activities, especially of humanitarian and social service. A large number of students, officials of IST donated blood on the occasion. Students were in high spirits which was quite evident from the turnout at the donation center.
