Catherina Kuetezang
Catherina Kuetezang is a passionate upcoming bioinformatician pursuing an Master in Science (M.Sc.) degree in Bioinformatics at the University of Pretoria. As a first-generation graduate and refugee born in South Africa, she is committed to empowering marginalized communities through education and technology. Raised by a single mother and having experienced homelessness firsthand, Catherina developed a passion for community service and led the Clothe Our Community initiative, which provides clothes to underprivileged communities. She co-founded Refugee Refuge Global NGO to provide academic opportunities for refugees and underprivileged individuals worldwide. Despite financial challenges throughout her academic journey, she secured a scholarship for her postgraduate studies. Catherina has also co-founded an AI literacy society at the University of Pretoria, where she educates students on ethical AI use. As an AI advocate, leader, and mentor, she promotes transformational leadership, closing the gender gap for African women in tech. Her strength and resilience are inspired by her mother’s encouragement.
