Thapar University Header

Thapar University is a private university in the city of Patalia in northwest India specializing in engineering and technology. It was established as the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology in 1956 by Karam Chand Thapar of the Thapar Group of companies with the goal of providing undergraduate and postgraduate education in Engineering and Technology, a close interaction with industry, and a strong emphasis on research. It was granted full autonomy by the University Grants Commission in 1985 and became Thapar University in 2007. Civic Engagement at Thapar University

Thapar University Civic Engagement 2A number of student societies at the university actively engage with and serve the local community. The Environmental Society works to improve the environment around the campus. The Creative Computing Society, which works to get students involved in computer activities outside of their classes, provides a computer literacy program for poor students in the community. The Pratigya Society serves the community in a number of ways, including providing literacy tutoring and vocational training for underprivileged young people.
