Deakin at Your Doorstep program

The innovative Deakin at your Doorstep program provides a new model of delivery to regional locations to enable supported transition to university for those not otherwise eligible for a university place. Deakin at Your Doorstep’s Associate Degree is designed for students who may doubt their ability to succeed in tertiary study, who may not have a clear idea of their longer-term degree pathway options, or who are disadvantaged because of their inability to access a tertiary education provider in their geographic area. Deakin Regional Community Health Hub (REACH)

REACH is an exciting development for Deakin and the Geelong region and will complement Deakin’s health precinct facilities and support initiatives to address the critical health workforce shortages in rural and regional Australia by providing much-needed facilities to its regions. Future Fibres Centre

Another exciting Deakin initiative is the world’s first research facility for carbon fibre innovation, which will be established at Deakin University’s Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds.  The carbon fibre pilot plant will be part of an Australian Future Fibres Research and Innovation Centre (AFFRIC). This Centre is collaboration between Deakin University, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the Victorian Centre for Advanced Materials Manufacturing (VCAMM).

The Centre’s research will focus on a range of innovative materials including nanomaterials, smart fibrous materials, green natural fibres and carbon fibre. The research will have applications for the aerospace, automotive and textiles industries. Read more>>

National Centre for Farmer Health

A partnership between Deakin University’s Medical School and the Western District Health Service has seen the inception of a new health initiative known as the National Centre for Farm Health.

The National Centre for Farmer Health complements the work of Deakin University’s teaching and research programs in tackling the health needs of rural and regional communities by focusing on solutions to improve the health and wellbeing of farmers, farm employees and their families across Australia. Asian Languages Partnership

Deakin University has confirmed its position as a national leader in language and language education as one of the seven successful applicants in the intensely competitive first round of funding under the Australian government’s Asian languages in schools initiative. Deakin’s project, Building Effective Partnerships to Increase Teacher Supply and Enhance the Quality of Asian Languages Education, is a collaboration between Schools in the Faculty of Arts and Education.

The project combines Deakin University’s extensive experience in teacher education with its strong language programs in Indonesian and Chinese to advance major new partnerships such as the Centre for Teaching Asian Languages and Cultures. Read more >>

BioLAB –The Victorian BioScience Education Centre

BioLAB is an AUD$4.5 million dollar science and maths specialist centre funded via the Victorian State Government’s ‘Energising Mathematics and Science Strategy’. BioLAB will provide inspiration, engagement and training through innovative bioscience education programs to teachers and students in Victoria in partnership with the regional bioscience industry.

As part of the BioLAB partnership Deakin University is providing support including  academic and research staff support, student internship, curriculum development liaison, joint research applications, use of facilities and reciprocal visits to University Campus sites including the Geelong Technology Precinct and the Institute for Technology Research and Innovation.
