Read the interview>> Hong Kong Polytechnic University makes service-learning compulsory Universities Engaging with Gender Issues in Their Societies At an ACU Conference in Sri Lanka on International Women’s Day, the Talloires Network and Association of Commonwealth Universities co-sponsored a plenary session entitled Universities Engaging with Gender Issues in Their Societies at a conference focused on women as agents of change in higher education. Grounded in such beliefs that universities should reflect and represent their societies and access the entirety of their human resource potential, the conference connected leaders in the Commonwealth for the purpose of developing strategies to increase both the quantity and quality of women leaders in higher education institutions. With the implementation of the four-year curriculum starting September 2012, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) will introduce a credit-bearing “service-learning” requirement in the curriculum. "PolyU Serves" will enable all undergraduate students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired from their studies to serve the community.
Chapters in this volume are based on presentations given at the 2010 annual conference of the International Association for Research on Service Learning and Community Engagement held in Indianapolis, IN. The conference theme "International Perspectives: Crossing Boundaries through Research" was chosen to highlight ways in which research crosses all kinds of boundaries: disciplinary boundaries, cultural boundaries, and national boundaries. Although service-learning is valued as an active learning strategy across the globe, little is known about the ways that service-learning is similar or different in varied contexts. Understanding service-learning and community engagement from cross-cultural and crossdisciplinary perspectives will improve both research and practice. 
CCPH is convening its 15th Anniversary Conference to nurture a growing network of community-campus partnerships that are striving to solve our most pressing health, social and economic challenges. Held at a pivotal time in the history of CCPH and the community-campus partnerships "movement," the conference will convene hundreds of community members, faculty, staff, students, funders and policy makers from around the world for 4 days of skill-building, networking and agenda-setting. 
The conference will set its focus on different themes to get more insight in processes, and develop specific policy recommendations that resonate with public concerns and articulated research needs and built on the experience and know-how of the previous Living Knowledge conferences. It will be an opportunity to bring together key thinkers and practitioners in the area of community based research, university/community partnerships and Science Shops and aims at providing options and opportunities for collaborations and ensuring that this area of work is prioritised on policy agendas both nationally and internationally. 
The Community and Civic Engagement Initiative at Auburn University has announced the first annual Academy for Community and Civic Engagement (ACCE) for faculty throughout the American southeast in the arts and humanities who are interested in incorporating civic engagement/service learning practices into their courses, outreach scholarship, and Promotion & Tenure policies. ACCE will provide an intense 3-day workshop for successful applicants.
