California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI or CI) is a four-year public university located in Camarillo, California. CSUCI opened in 2002 and now enrolls just over 4,000 students. Center for Community Engagement

 The Service Learning and Civic Engagement Office was established in 2004 to support the integration of service-learning into the curriculum and to develop community partnerships. The SLCE later became the Center for Community Engagement, which seeks to foster a learning community that facilitates learning for civic engagement in CI’s local and global communities and addresses societal challenges through long-term sustainable partnerships. Service Learning at CSUCI

 The Center for Community Engagement (CCE) serves as a resource and support center for faculty, community partners and students engaged in service learning. The CCE maintains a database of local community based agencies and organizations. The CCE can provide staff to conduct orientations during class or at other pre-arranged times to introduce students to service learning concepts, methods and purpose. University Outreach

 Primarily serving K-8 grade students and parents through six distinct programs, University Outreach seeks to create a college-going culture in Ventura County through campus visits, school site visits and community events. Students are provided with detailed information about required high school coursework, college entrance exams, the four systems of higher education in California, and financial aid. During the 2009-2010 academic year, University Outreach served 4,824 students from 29 elementary and middle schools in Ventura County as well as neighboring counties. Learn more>>

Leaders in Education Awareness Program (LEAP)

 An important component of University Outreach is the Leaders in Education Awareness Program (LEAP), which was designed and launched in 2006 to address the interest in exposing K-8th grade students in Ventura County to the college exploration process. CI students with strong academic and service records are selected to serve as LEAP volunteers. Students serving in LEAP are required to facilitate Pathway to College Campus visits. Learn more>>
