Center for Service, Work, and Learning
Every year, over 30 courses at Augsburg include a course-embedded, service-learning component. Students spend an average of 25 hours per semester in service-learning experiences directly connected with course objectives and learning goals. A number of Augsburg’s service-learning partners are in schools and organizations in the inner city of Minneapolis. Campus Kitchen Project
Student, faculty and staff volunteers serve 1400 meals per month in the community through the Campus Kitchen Augsburg College. This student-run program works with the campus food service, food banks, and with local farmers and farmers’ markets to utilize surplus food and prepare it into meals for the community. City Service Projects
Every year, the entire incoming first year class at Augsburg along with faculty,staff, the president of the college and his cabinet participate in a half day of “City Service Projects” at 20 different schools and organizations in Minneapolis. Over 1300 hours of service are provided on the day after Labor Day. “City Service Projects” emphasize to new students Augsburg’s motto, “Education for Service”. Students are given an orientation to their community site and information about how to serve at that organization in the future.
