The Future of the Talloires Network
Monday, February, 27th, 2017 News
Talloires Network institutions are committed to ensuring that students graduate with a strong intellectual foundation and a sense of responsibility to their fellow citizens. That commitment to uplifting the social responsibilities of higher education has been present since leaders and scholars from around the world first gathered at the Tufts European Center in Talloires, France in 2005 to affirm their commitment to university civic engagement. At that meeting, the founding of a global network was ratified, and a declaration that began with 29 signatories has since been adopted by more than 350 universities worldwide.
Faculty, staff, and students at the Talloires Network Secretariat have worked with partners around the globe to publish original research and recognize outstanding engagement programs. More than 30 universities have received the MacJannet Prize, many more have contributed to action research efforts for the advancement of civic engagement, and hundreds of people have come together through our conferences on three continents.
We are proud of our work, and we are grateful to the generous sponsors and funders who have supported it. However, for this network to reach its full potential, we must work together to ensure its financial and institutional sustainability.
We are now asking member universities to contribute dues to support network operations. We have created a tiered system, based on the Human Development Index, to ensure that the opportunity to contribute takes into account the differing financial landscapes for higher education around the world.
Can we count on your university to become an Engaged Member of the Talloires Network? I encourage you to learn about our new membership dues system on our website, and to contact our Secretariat office with any questions.
