Air University, Islamabad (Pakistan)
Air University is “a dynamic community of students, teachers and staff committed to perform their duties at the highest standards.” It is located in Islamabad and Multan, Pakistan, and functions as a public research university under the command of the Pakistani Air Force’s education command. Most of its students, however, are civilians. The university was founded in 2002, and currently enrolls around 3,500 students. It is located in an urban campus, and is considered one of the top higher learning institutions in Pakistan.
Air University does not believe in producing one-dimensional personalities. Rather, they believe that extra-curricular activities help develop well-rounded, socially-skilled, and healthier individuals. With this in mind, Air University promotes a variety of activities under different clubs/societies from which a student can choose. These activities range from athletics, debates, music, Qirat, dramas, and poetry to cultural activities. Each society has a faculty member in charge to facilitate, while the entire management of activities is done by the students themselves. Some of these societies focus on sports, engineering, culture, and women’s empowerment.
AU Adventure Club
The Air University Adventure Club (AUAC) is one of the biggest clubs in any university in Pakistan. It organizes various activities to bring the students of the university closer to the surrounding communities. AUAC administers arrange excursions to different areas of Pakistan. These trips are not only for recreational purposes, but also for the physical and mental growth of students. The Club has been successfully run and managed by students from different departments. It organizes different kinds of trips, and in summer there are always trips to the northern areas of Pakistan.
Shaoor Society
Sha’oor society was formed in the year 2007 to create awareness about the many issues that our society faces today. Sha’oor has worked hard in building its image as a society which works for community welfare in general and plays its part in lessening the misery of those struck by disaster. Since the beginning, Sha’oor has focused on bringing such issues to the forefront which need our due attention. The main objective is to work for the social and moral uplift of society. The volunteer network that Sha’oor has developed includes people from all walks of life. Expanding the network from just a handful of people to thousands of dedicated members is a success in its own.
In the past Sha’oor has organized and sponsored quite a few events. The likes of which include seminars, fund-raising campaigns, and ‘Pakiography’ (a video and photography competition). Sha’oor believes in honoring the orphans and needy. For this purpose a lot of help is extended to orphan homes for their education and other needs. The sub-project of Sha’oor, ‘RAY – A Beam of Hope’ serves the orphans by sponsoring their education.
Blood Donation Campaign
A philanthropic blood donation campaign was organized by Air University in collaboration with Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS). Students and staff members of Air University wholeheartedly participated in this life saving campaign and donated 93 units of blood.
