Tony MonacoNew Era of TN Leadership

Happy New Year! I am pleased to write to you for the first time as the recently appointed Chair of the Talloires Network Steering Committee.  I would like to thank Mark Gearan and Jan Reid for their superb leadership of the Committee over the past few years.

I am excited to continue leading the Talloires Network forward. I am joined in leadership of the Steering Committee by Vice-Chair Cheryl de la Rey, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria in South Africa. I would also like to welcome the newly elected members of the Steering Committee who began their terms on January 1:

— Ernest Aryeety, Vice Chancellor, University of Ghana

— Muhammad Asghar, Rector, National University of Sciences and Technology (Pakistan)

— Sara Ladrón de Guevara, Rector, Universidad Veracruzana (Mexico)

— Lorraine McIlrath, Founding Director, Campus Engage; Project Coordinator, Community Knowledge Initiative, National University of Ireland, Galway (Ireland)

— Andrew Petter, President and Vice-Chancellor, Simon Fraser University (Canada)

— Andrew Vann, Vice-Chancellor, Charles Sturt University (Australia)

I would like to take the opportunity to recognize the members of the Steering Committee who completed their terms at the end of 2014: Jan Reid, Scott Cowen, Shamsh Kassim-Lakha, José Sanz, Sharifah Shahabudin, and John Wood. On behalf of the Talloires Network, I would like to thank each of them for their invaluable guidance and leadership.

I cannot imagine a better way to begin 2015 than with the energy from the 2014 Talloires Network Leaders Conference. Many representatives of TN member institutions, from all parts of the world, contributed to making the Conference such a productive convening.  We owe a debt of gratitude to all of them.  I look forward to building on the momentum generated by the Conference throughout the coming year, as the Talloires Network celebrates its 10th anniversary and charts a course for the next stage.

Best wishes for a productive 2015!

Tony
