Once known as the Instituto Pedagógico – a school that was part of the Universidad de Chile – the Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación (UMCE) itself was established in 1981. The university was created to provide programs of study that trained educators of the future. UMCE is now Chile’s leading institution of higher education focusing on applied pedagogical and teaching research. Educating the Community
UMCE provides an opportunity for aspiring educators to not only learn about the practice of teaching, but also how to apply their skills to serve the greater community. UMCE acknowledges its responsibility to the Chilean community by preparing its students to address community needs through education. The university offers a variety of trainings for future teachers to engage diverse populations of the community.
