Manchester BEACON for Public Engagement
The Manchester Beacon for public engagement is a collaborative effort between the University of Salford, The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and the Museum of Science and Industry. They are part of ‘The Beacons for Public Engagement’ initiative. The focus of the Manchester Beacon is to engage its nearest neighbors, which includes residents from the most deprived areas of Manchester and Salford, in order to make the resources of Manchester and Salford’s Universities and cultural assets accessible and beneficial to all. Urban Regeneration: Making a Difference
Urban Regeneration: Making a Difference is an innovative program addressing some of the key urban regeneration challenges facing the north of England. Funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (Hefce), the program encompasses 46 projects set up around the themes of crime, community cohesion, health & well-being and enterprise. Along with Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Northumbria, and the University of Central Lancashire, the University of Salford has been working in partnership with a variety of organizations, making a difference to their local communities. Creative Enterprise education
Creative Enterprise education places artists and other creative professionals and students in Schools to work with teaching staff and young people, setting up design and making projects. University art and design students spend a week in an school/ F.E college creating work in response to the school environment as well as delivering workshops to the pupils. They then spend a week’s work experience in a gallery or other Creative Industries location alongside 2 of the school pupils. They work together to create work in response to their setting. The pupils then have the opportunity to work with in studio space at University. The activity culminates in an exhibition or other presentation of their joint achievements. Learn more>>
