Talloires Network Expands to Ukraine Talloires Network’s principles are penetrating the former USSR countries. Ukrainian educators and professors, in spite of economic hardships, met together in Sevastopol at the international conference Olbian Forum 2012: “Strategies of Ukraine in the Geopolitical Space”, which was held at Petro Mohyla Black Sea University on June 6-10, 2012. Among special guests was senior liaison Dr. Donald Wertlieb. In his presentation “Engaged University, Enhanced Education: the Talloires Network Opportunity” he explained to the Ukrainian colleagues the values, which unite many universities on all continents, and received the letters of commitment of the Ukrainian universities who decided to join the Network. The Taking the Plunge blog aims to address key issues and stimulate in-depth dialogue about the challenges and joys of universities engaging with their external communities. The blog is written by Margo Fryer, senior adviser for student learning initiatives at the University of British Columbia and founding director of both the UBC Learning Exchange and the UBC-Community Learning Initiative.
The annual Ernest A. Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagement for Early Career Faculty recognizes a faculty member who connects his or her teaching, research, and service to community engagement. The award is designated for either pre-tenure faculty at tenure-granting campuses or early career faculty (i.e., within the first six years) at campuses with long-term contracts. This year, NERCHE is pleased to present the Ernest A. Lynton Award to Dr. Jordan Karubian, Assistant Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. 


The 14th annual IAU General Conference has its overall theme, Higher Education and the Global Agenda: Alternative Paths to the Future. Speakers and participants will examine how higher education and research are addressing the ‘global agenda’, including the critical issues facing humanity. 
The conference will be held by the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the IT-Academic Core Processes and Systems (IT-ACPS) at the American University of Beirut. The Conference will incorporate formal research-oriented sessions, pre-conference workshops and prominent speakers, including six strands: Teaching, Learning and Assessment in Higher Education, Measuring Teaching Effectiveness, Blended Learning, Innovations in Teaching Technologies and Methodologies, Program and Course Learning Outcomes and Service Learning.
