Uganda Christian University has recently expanded the scope of their community engagement activities and together with development partners they are carrying out qualitative research on the use of learning aids in rural communities of Karamoja.  The activity also includes an adopted user knowledge transfer for source protection with E Books.  The university believes the digital age will revolutionize not only teaching and learning but also information access in this remote part of Uganda.

An example of this work is the Innovative Learning Project for Rural Women and Children. The project involves taking the innovation technologies and entrepreneurship to the rural women and introducing the children in nursery schools to Computers at an early age.  The project aims at empowering the communities and showing them the infinite possibilities of doing business online and through use of APPs.The project was informed by student in the Innovation Hub at the University who felt the great need to spread internet technologies to the rural folk as well as start a generation of Young people that are familiar with the internet and computers. They also felt compelled to develop simple Apps that would introduce the Women and Children to Use of APP in a simple yet interesting way.  The “Tukole App” Meaning let’s work and the “Abaato App” focusing on training nursery Kids on computer use. “Abbato”is a Luganda word for Children.Through this project the university tries to bring our rural population a new exciting approach of learning via eBooks, simple on tablets and simple Apps.
