About the Winners:


First Place: Medical Force During Conflict: Sudan, Afhad University for Women (Sudan)

Medical Force During Conflict is the First Place Winner of the 2025 MacJannet Prize for Global Citizenship. The program was established in 2023 with the outbreak of war in Sudan by the Medical Students’ Association of Afhad University for Women. Recognizing the urgent need for mental and psychological health interventions, the Medical Force During Conflict program aimed to equip medical students with essential skills while also supporting the broader community. The focus has been on helping individuals (youth, women, men, and children) to build resilience and cope with the hardships and war-related trauma, offering mental and psychological support, and providing ways to assist those facing both mental and physical health challenges.

The program is student-led and run by medical students from different academic years, with guidance from faculty members and collaborations with local organizations. Faculty support enriches activities by providing expertise, mentorship, and connections to professionals, while external partnerships strengthen the program’s impact.

Second Place: Centre for Legal Aid Programme, National University of Study and Research in Law (India)

The Centre for Legal Aid Programme (CLAP) is the Second-Place Prize winner of the 2025 MacJannet Prize. CLAP is an integral centre of learning at the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, recognized by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, under its Pro Bono Club Scheme. It is affiliated with the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) and the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ranchi. The motto “Paritranaya Sadhunam” (‘For the Support of the Virtuous’) embodies the core ethos of CLAP and serves as a guiding principle for its endeavors. Established in 2011, the Centre is recognized for championing the contemporary and globally relevant domain of legal aid and awareness, working to uplift marginalized sections of society.

The Centre has been instrumental in organizing legal awareness camps and ensuring pro bono legal services for indigent complainants with the support of various Ministries and Government Agencies. Through its various fieldwork, a dual purpose is served: fostering student collaboration and advancing access to justice for marginalized individuals in Jharkhand, one of India’s poorest states. Third Place: Program Penggerak Pendaulat Borneo 9.0, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (Malaysia) 

Penggerak Pendaulat Borneo (PPB) is the Third-Place Prize winner of the MacJannet Prize for Global Citizenship 2025. This program addresses critical issues concerning basic infrastructure, specifically: 1) electricity2) clean water, and 3) access to education, particularly within the rural regions of Sabah and Sarawak. A persistent and significant infrastructure disparity exists between urban and rural areas in these states. In response to these challenges, the PPB program seeks to implement alternative and sustainable solutions to promote social justice and inclusive development for marginalized communities in rural Sabah and Sarawak.

Accordingly, the program is structured around three (3) core objectives: 1) the empowerment of education, 2) the provision of alternative electricity sources and 3) the supply of clean water to rural communities in the states of Sabah and Sarawak. Established in 2016, the PPB initiative has successfully carried out its mission over nine consecutive editions, continuing into 2025. Learn more!

Diabetes Mobile Unit, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland-Medical University of Bahrain (Bahrain)

World Diabetes Day-Public Event-Healthy Plate Activity

The Diabetes Mobile Unit (DMU) programme aims to advance public health promotion in Bahrain through multisectoral collaboration, integrating education, research, and community engagement. The DMU programme fosters sustainable educational and research initiatives to prepare nursing and medical students as future health promotion leaders. Its mission is to empower children, families, and communities to enhance health literacy, adopt healthy lifestyles to reduce the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes, and support effective diabetes self-care management. Through these efforts, the programme strives to create a lasting impact on the community's health and well-being. Learn more! 

 

El Refugio Libertad, Universidad Católica De Córdoba (Argentina)

El Refugio Libertad received Honorable Mention in the 2025 MacJannet Prize. The Refugio Libertad of Los Molinos, located in the province of Córdoba, Argentina, is a symbolic site that has been transformed by the community into a space of life, memory, and hope. This area, once a clandestine detention center during the last military dictatorship, now hosts a variety of community initiatives, ranging from gardens to educational projects. Women play a leading role in the organization and management of the Refugio, promoting gender equality in the rural area. The Catholic University of Córdoba has closely collaborated with the community in extension activities, providing students with opportunities to learn and contribute through workshops, workdays, and research projects. This collaboration strengthens the bond between the university and the community, creating a space for mutual dialogue and cooperation. The Refugio Libertad also stands out as a site of memory and resistance, highlighting the importance of memory, truth, and justice in building a more just and democratic future. Learn more.

Medical Students’ Aid Project, University of New South Wales (Australia)

The Medical Students’ Aid Project (MSAP) received Honorable Mention in the 2025 MacJannet Prize. MSAP is a global health group run by medical students at the University of New South Wales, Sydney (UNSW). MSAP is dedicated to advancing healthcare equity both locally and globally through education, advocacy, and collaboration.

MSAP’s flagship initiative, the Elective Aid Program, empowers students to deliver essential medical equipment to hospitals in low-resource settings during their overseas electives. In 2024/25, MSAP supported seven hospitals across Cambodia, India, Samoa, Tanzania, the Solomon Islands, and Sri Lanka, providing AUD 3,500 worth of supplies, including computers for electronic medical records, stethoscopes, otoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, sutures, and pediatric glycerin suppositories.
