Civic Engagement at GCU
GCU is committed to engaging with and serving the community, a commitment reflected in the University’s motto, “For the Common Weal” (For the Common Good). For example, the University is in the process of establishing a sustainable community health centre. The Vision Sciences faculty has gathered equipment to establish a weekly eye clinic, while the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Community Health hopes to offer a range of services including a UNICEF infant feeding class, and maternity and child health groups. Student Leaders Programme
The Student Leaders Programme (SLP) was introduced in 2004 and aims to encourage, support and recognize students who already or wish to engage in leadership activities within Glasgow Caledonian University. The SLP, which is organized in a partnership between Glasgow Caledonian University and its Students’ Association, is regarded as a flagship program which educates and empowers students to become more active citizens and demonstrate leadership attributes within their voluntary roles. Voluntary Work and Mentoring Scheme
Psychology students at GCU have the opportunity to obtain relevant work experience while volunteering in community organizations. Students engage in mentoring, tutoring, and advocacy projects, and keep a log of their reflections.
