Occidental College is a small, private, coeducational liberal arts college located in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1887, Occidental College, or "Oxy" as it is called by students and alumni, is one of the oldest liberal arts colleges on the West Coast. The college is noted for its combination of rigorous academic programs, a small yet diverse student body, and the resources of one of the world’s major cities. One of a small group of liberal arts colleges selected as community engagement institutions by the Carnegie Foundation, Occidental’s extensive roster of community based learning courses, outreach programs, and community based research projects have repeatedly been recognized with distinction by the President’s Honor Roll Award for Service.
