Kirabo Joel Ochuma

Joel is a critical thinker and curious individual. Born and raised in Uganda, the challenges he faces are not uncommon to any young person of his age. He believes conscious servant leadership is the solution to many of the challenges facing communities. He had the honor of serving as the Chairperson of the Scripture Union committee, a Christian group in his high school. He also served as the General Secretary of the debate club during the same period and won the 2019 Uganda National High School Debate Championship. His love and interest in technology led him to pursue a Bachelor of Information Systems and Technology at Makerere University. Joel served as the Minister of Debate in the 90th External Campus Guild Committee and currently holds the position of Guild Speaker in the same committee after a recently concluded election cycle. He is passionate about using dialogue and critical thinking to drive positive change. He is driven by curiosity and a desire to truly understand, not just memorize. Above all, Joel has a strong faith in God and is a daily reader of the Holy Scripture. His philosophy is one of an optimistic future rather than a doom and gloom outlook. As a leader, he aims, among many things, for people to realize that what they usually think of as privilege is actually their right. He believes in working hard, thinking big, and not panicking—life is too valuable for anything less.
